Having had an alt outside the station I can attest, at least anecdotally, that your ship is not actually in space until after the black screen ceases. I am not sure if they changed it because I haven't been using it in recent times, but you were able to stop your ship with ctrl-space while staring at the black screen so you don't end up leagues away from the station once you finally can see what's going on. I have definitely undocked, had a long black screen, and found I was being shot at after only a couple of seconds.įrom hundreds of times undocking while dual-boxing, I know that the people outside *definitely* get to see your ship before you can see them. So far, in years of lame undocking games, I'e never seen a ship get targetted before they have control, but I belieive it's possible for the black screen to be shown so long that the invulnerability runs out before you have control.

Well, it's variable, depending on server load, your cpu load, your pc performance, your network bandwidth and latency. The point the OP was trying to get to (I think) was how long is the period from step 2 to 3 in this list. If you try to warp away or any other manouever, the invulnerable period is ended immediately. The amount of invulnerable timer left is unknown, it is possibly already over. Your black screen clears to show the world outside. They cannot target you, and you cannot cancel your timer yet because your screen is still black and you can't do anything.ģ. your 30 second timer starts now, and people outside the station can see you. your screen shows the inside of the station for a few more seconds then goes to black screen.Ģ. Activating a module or changing speed/course isn't.ġ. YOU CAN STOP and still be untargetible, just hit Ctrl spaceĬorrect, stopping is allowed. My opinions belong to me, you can't have them! Basically you can't do anything that requires a session change for 30 seconds.Īs for extended black screens, defragging the drive will help limit this problem, as will adding more ram memory and lowering the graphics settings.Īnything that needs to be loaded is loaded during this undocking period and it's usually loaded from the harddrive if not already in memory. Also after you undocked you cannot re-dock for 30 seconds. I haven't tested it myself, but it should be easy to check if that is the case.Ĭan confirm that this is the case. So if you change ships just before undocking it will take you an extra 30 seconds. Someone hinted at the session timer you get when you change ships is sneakily inserted into the undock black screen.

I do remember in the old days that sometimes the screen never loaded and you had black all the time (even though you could with an alt see you undock) but I haven't experienced that in a long long time now (but then I play at low-res so everything pretty much loads instantly, minus session timers ofc). I understand that it can take a bit to load the system, but I was wondering if it is possible to be shot before you are able to load the screen? Does anyone have experience with this, or know if the game allows you to take damage before the screen loads? And what is the average time it takes for the screen to load?Īfaik you are not able to be targeted for 30 sec after undock (or until you do something, like stop, move, activate module).Īs for the screen itself I'm not sure think it's loading the scene and perhaps minor lag causes it to load slower. I know that there is a short buffer of time that you can not target a ship that is exiting the station. I have know corpmates that have gone to undock, and before they have loaded the screen, they are taking damage, and or lost their ship. So can anyone clarify what your status is after you press undock and before you load the screen? Sometimes this is a very short period of time, while at other times it has lasted over 20-30 seconds.
